Woodstock runs mark to 6-0

WOODSTOCK — It’s been a special year so far for the Woodstock boys soccer team. The Wasps ran their record to 6-0 on Thursday by trimming Leland & Gray 4-1.

The Wasps had a 1-0 halftime lead on an unassisted goal by Griffin Balser.

Connor McCarthy got the attack rolling in the second half with another unassisted tally. Alex Crompton then converted a penalty kick and Dougie Avellino got their final goal on an assist from Crompton.

Woodstock goalie Connor Fegard had four saves and stopped a penalty kick.

“Leland & Gray is a physical team,” Woodstock coach Tom Avellino said.

The Wasps will play Hartford under the lights in Woodstock on Saturday night. The game will begin at 6 p.m. and coach Avellino knows it will be a tough test against their Upper Valley rivals.

“We’ll show up and play hard,” the coach said.
